The sale will be held inside the mall protected from wind and rain. Native tallgrass prairie grasses and flowering forbs, as well as native woodland wildflowers will be for sale. Don't miss this exciting event!

The Sinnissippi Audubon Society, a group dedicated to preserving and restoring native plant communitites, is taking orders for its annual Prairie Plant Sale. Information on the sale is available on the web at

or by e-mailing bleaf@sinnfree.org. SAS is selling plant kits, 36 plugs to a kit (10 flowering plants and two grasses) for $50, $35 for schools. Our grower has designed two kits one for dry soils and one for mesic soils. Delivery is May 10 at Burpee Museum, 737 N.Main St., Rockford. Each kit covers about 80 square feet.

NOTE: Kits should be ordered beforehand.

"The Prairie in Spring"

"In the Schulenberg Prairie on the Arboretum's west side, you can see local prairie species in a natural setting. See prairie violet, golden alexanders, cream wild indigo, hoary puccoon, and prairie phlox, and learn to recognize later blooming species by their leaves. You will also learn how this restored prairie was established. Cost is $14 (or $11 for members).
