Purpose & Scope

These archives preserve community-driven horticultural discussions (1997–present) as an immutable historical record. We maintain them for researchers, historians, and gardeners who wish to study the evolution of cultivation practices, taxonomy debates, pest-management techniques, and more.

Retention & Governance

All messages are retained indefinitely. Mallorn Computing, Inc. (Urbana, IL) and its archivist, Christopher P. Lindsey, oversee backups, integrity checks, and policy enforcement. Contact: archives@hort.net.

Access & Use

• Viewing & searching: Anyone may freely browse or search the archives for personal, research, or educational purposes.
• Copyright: Each message remains the intellectual property of its original author. This archive does not grant any additional reproduction or distribution rights.
• Attribution & permissions: If you wish to reproduce or publish any excerpt beyond fair-use/ fair-dealing limits, you must seek permission directly from the message’s author.

GDPR Archival Exception

Under GDPR Article 17(3)(e), we retain these records “for archiving in the public interest.” Consequently, erasure requests for existing messages will be respectfully declined, to preserve the archive’s completeness and context. This does not apply to new posts, which remain subject to standard moderation and user requests.
